Randy Wayne Sample, 75, of Heppner, passed away unexpectedly on May 30, 2024 at his home.

He was born on December 7, 1948 in Nyssa, Oregon to Cloyd Kenneth Sample and Jane Irma Edison Sample. Randy graduated from Madras Union High School class of 1968. Following graduation he served with the U.S. Marine Corps in Viet Nam.

After he returned home, he married Jan Towery of Madras.

He is survived by two children, Daniel Sample, Mathew Sample and one son through marriage, Jeremy Towery, several grandchildren, Kailea, Kodi, Rylee, Jamison, Kaiya and Skyler, a brother Larry Sample of Boardman, Pamela Phipps of Madras and Linda Toms of Boardman, and numerous nieces and nephews. Randy lived a life filled with love, strength and laughter that touched the hearts of all who knew him.

He was a proud Marine Veteran who served his country with honor and bravery. His dedication to serving others extended beyond his military service as he continued to be a pillar of strength for his family and friends throughout his life.

Randy enjoyed spending time outdoors camping, hunting and fly fishing at Deep Creek in the Ochoco Nation Forest Randy loved watching his grandchildren accomplish their dreams and goals. He is loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2024 at the Mt. Jefferson Memorial Park, 1059 NE Loucks Road, Madras, Oregon 97741. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Great West Division Inc., PO Box 3366, Portland, OR 97208.
