Obituary

Laura May Harsin was born in The Dalles, Oregon on July 8, 1961, the third child of Ray and Ruth Lantis. The Lantis family moved to Condon in 1968 and Laura started school in the second grade and continued until high school graduation in 1979. After high school, Laura attended college at Pacific University in Forest Grove and graduated in 1984 with a degree in education.

In 1984 Laura met a handsome man, and in 1986, on June 7 Laura and Dallas married in the Condon City Park. Laura was teaching fifth grade at the time, and under the guidance of band teacher Richard Greiner, her class played the wedding march.

In the fall of 1986 Laura started teaching third grade for the Pilot Rock School District. On June 20 ,1988 things changed around the Harsin house with the birth of Angela. Laura taught in Pilot Rock until 1994, when the Harsins made the move to Condon. Laura thought that Condon needed a clothing store, so she tried that along with a computer store in the back as well. After the clothing store Laura got back to what she was put on this earth to do and that was to work in education. At that time, Condon School District did not have an opening, so Laura worked for the preschool. During her time at the preschool, Laura started coaching, where she was able to coach the Condon Blue Devil volleyball team to second place in the state in 1996. After teaching preschool Laura was employed by the ESD as a counselor until there was an opening at the grade school. In 1998, Laura was hired full-time by the Condon School District, where she worked until her retirement in 2023. But…she didn’t leave and continued to work part time. Kindergarten was what Laura spent most of her time teaching and she could always find something good about every single student. She had a profound impact on so many students and fellow teachers over her years in education.

Laura spent many hours taking money at Condon volleyball and basketball games. She also liked to follow Condon students and watch them succeed. One of her most lasting impressions on many students was her pep talks and speeches she gave as Ms. Biggabottom. Laura really enjoyed pushing students to their fullest potential and was a long time board member in the Condon Scholarship Foundation.

But there was nothing that Laura liked more than watching her grandchildren, whether it was in sports, Christmas concerts, school activities or just spending time with them. Paulen and Oaklee live in Pendleton and called Laura GG, and George and Oliver live in Condon.

Laura is survived by parents Ray and Ruth Lantis, her husband Dallas Harsin, daughter Angela and husband Matt Kaseberg and grandchildren Paulen and Oaklee, stepdaughter Emily Heryla and grandsons George and Oliver, brothers Herschel and wife Juli and Ward and wife Glenda, sister ZoeDel Frisbie, brother-in-law Kerry Harsin and wife Sue, sister-in-law Cindy Heesacker, nieces Elizabeth Lantis, Sara Harsin and Christina Heesacker, nephews Brian Lantis and wife Angie, Rex Lantis and wife Nichole, Vincent Lantis and wife Heather, Zach Lantis and wife Emerald, Rob Harsin and Tyson Heesacker and wife Lauren, plus great nieces and nephews Tate, Kaylee, Maecie, Kayden, Makaila, Riley, and Chase Lantis.
