Obituary

The family of Johnny Edward “Kojak” Shaw is saddened to announce his passing on February 2, 2026. Born on March 11, 1944, in Bend, Oregon. John lived his life with a passion for the outdoors (especially hunting and fishing), woodworking, and spending time with friends & family.

John, a retired Professional Forester, worked for Weyerhaeuser, Kinzua, and Idaho Timber companies. But for many years he ran his own business Forest Management Services, Inc.–helping many eastern Oregon timber owners market and sell their timber to gain the best financial outcome while simultaneously maintaining and growing a healthy forest.

John grew up in Sisters, Oregon and was known for his athletic ability–Quarterback of a state championship football team, basketball point guard, and baseball pitcher/infielder. He was inducted in the Sisters Outlaws Hall of Fame along with his championship football team. He graduated from Oregon State University and loved watching the Beavers! While growing up in Sisters he met his first wife Linda; with whom he had his only son J.J. They lived and worked in Kinzua & Heppner until 1989.

John found his soulmate–Pat Shaw–and they married on December 30, 1994. Pat and John enjoyed playing golf, camping, visiting the Oregon coast; but their passion was “cruising”. They’ve enjoyed many trips to Mexico, the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii, Iceland, Europe, and even a 36 day journey around the southern tip of South America.

John was a consummate woodworker who had a knack for carving intricate objects & building custom furniture. He loved many types of wood and is known for making beautiful rolltop desks out of black walnut, juniper, and blue pine. The bar and registration desk at Hotel Condon and the large display case at the Condon Elks Club are some of his biggest endeavors.

John is survived by his wife of 31 years, Pat; son JJ (Barb), granddaughter Allie, step-children Tami Long (Joe), Amy Coy (Ron), Eric Harrison, and Ryan Harrison; and many other grand- & great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Homer & Norma Shaw, and brother Ralph.

A celebration of life will be held March 7, 2026, with friends & family.
